Technical Resume

Objective
The objective is to emphasize my abilities as a Field Service Technician and in hardware design. I am a highly experienced and versatile technician and offer my experience to anyone who has a diverse range of computer equipment or hardware that requires maintenance or design requirements.
Customer Service
  • Retail Customers

Computer Renew is a retail computer shop. I participated in the sales and repair of older and new computer equipment . Balancing the economics of the right computer equipment and the repair to these customers requires tact, honesty, and the ability to explain computer needs with just the right amount of technical explanation.

  • Attended Customer Satisfaction Seminar
  • Attended a Seminar from Sea Consulting entitled “ Customer Satisfaction” One of the modules “From Complainer to Loyal Customer” was particularly useful.
  •
    • Commercial Customers
  • Cariboo Hi Tech was my own personal company. Learning that a company has to provide quality service to all customers not just a few, was an important lesson that I experienced. To facilitate this the service and guarantee on Computer equipment has to be a firm policy that both the service person and the customer clearly understand.
    • Medical Professional
  • Technicare was a Johnson and Johnson company that manufactured medical CAT scanners. The head office was in Toronto and I was the Technical Service representative for B.C. and Alberta. I gained skills in being firm and realistic with the customer on the time required to complete a repair or upgrade and presenting alternative solutions to prevent unnecessary downtime. A Most important skill gained was being able to separate business from friendship with the customer. There was a 24 hour on call service on this medical machine so I spent countless late hours with the doctors and radiologists, this developed into a respect and friendship. When the machine was down it had to be all business and the matter at hand had to be solved at any cost.

    • Academia and Students
  • CompuCollege employed me as an Instructor and Technical Service person for the Network and varied Computer equipment on Campus. I found out it is very important to listen to a request; it always demands a solution. The same question from a vendor, fellow instructor, or a student has to be answered in terms they understand. If the person doesn't’t understand what you said there is no solution to the problem and no answer to the question. It takes a lot of practice, and I am proud of my ability to respond well to questions and provide solutions on technical matters for many different people.
  • Communication and Team Skills

    • Rapport
  • With my work at a Computer Renew and as a College Instructor I have learned to work with many levels of computer skills in fellow technicians so that we can enjoy the work. Two people working together in a congenial atmosphere should be able to get four times the work done not double the work.
    • Motivate
  • To motivate fellow workers is a skill that has developed over the years. Fellow technicians like to work with me. I enjoy the challenge of a good technical problem and can get co-workers involved with me in the detective work.
    • Flexible
  • I like to be flexible and help fellow technicians with tasks when needed. This is a delicate area sometimes as many technicians have a hard time with accepting help thinking it means they cannot cope with the problem. One has to know when to offer help and offer it in the most tactful manner.
    • Sharing
  • Sharing ideas on problems, solutions, and especially new techniques is a reason I like Technical Service. If something worked before it will work again. One just has to find the bug.
  • Time Management

    • Proper Tools
  • With Technicare and other employers I have been required to travel extensively. Learning how to pack my bags with the proper repair tools is a skill that I have attained. If I am on the job at some location and am missing a tool, I will make sure that it is added to my kit so I do not miss it again the next time.
    • Travel
  • As mentioned above I have traveled extensively in my Service Career. One thing I do all the time when I am away is to keep in touch with the home base to make sure everything is in shape. There is nothing worse than returning from a trip to many unexpected fires that turn your time into a shambles.
    • Time Management Seminar
  • With my service Career time management has always been a priority and this seminar I attended was particularly impressive. I have followed many of the guidelines diligently.
  •
    • The Extra Mile
  • Before I pack up the tools after a repair I always look around for something else that could be done, there is usually something else that could use some attention. This serves two purposes, procrastinating now will cost you more time later, and it helps one to perform the job with real quality.

    Hardware

    • Best Challenge
  • Bertsch Electronics employed me as a designer for a PCB. I used Tango software and the PCB was a SCSI to IDE interface for a hard drive. The components were surface mount and I was to design it for the new robot pick and place machine that was on order. I was even trained on the robot to make sure it would assemble the PCB. I have participated in a number of such design projects and each one gave me another experience to add to my abilities as a service Technician.. In this project I gained some experience and understanding of FPLA integration and how to work with surface mount components. It is not often that one needs this level of expertise in Service and Repair. But each project has enhanced my ability to be practical and versatile in my repair and service of computers.
