The Star Rating for the Prince George Websites shown on my Pages
The star rating for a site was found by assigning points too the categories listed below. This is a personal rating and not endorsed by any organization. If you are offended please message me and I will rectify the situation. This system should produce ideas on how to enhance your site by examining other sites in our area but most importantly it is meant to show the great sites in Prince George B.C. Canada

Navigation

How easy was it to move around the site and find the information needed? Were there any broken links or page not found problems? Was it easy to find the page of information you sought?

Appearance

This is an artistic judgment in some aspects. Most of the larger Websites these days are quite plain artisically speaking. An example is the City of Prince George site, which is totally devoid of any artistic impression. Yet this site is very functional and practical and well designed by the boys from the East Coast. A business site should present a image that is appropriate. A Tattoo parlor can be very artistic and colorful whereas a Trucking Company or car dealership shouldn’t have black backgrounds and florescent lettering. Fonts should be easily readable. Spelling mistakes are a no no etc.

Content

This is the King. A Website without any information or old information is literally useless. Fancy graphic introductions and then no information on the site pages is a turn off. Is there valid contact information? Is there personalization to the content such as profiles and philosophy of the site. Is your email address from the site used for contact? Are you just a small cog from a larger corporate site? Is the information from your site detailed enough to hold a visitor for longer than 30 seconds.

Search Engines

If someone can’t find your site you will have a non-productive site that no-one will visit. Search Engines are said to produce 80%-90% of your traffic. Getting indexed by the thousands of search engines takes a lot of work. If your site had a page rank from Google then I know that some work has been done. I recorded address’s that were on vehicles, consulted trade journals, used the newspapers, advertising literature, and even the portfolio’s of all the local web design firms to find sites to add to the Prince George Pages.

Dynamic

This means a site is kept current with its information and presentation. Can the site be updated by its own personnel rather than a web design firm? Is e-commerce implemented? Is the site being used for internal purposes?
